CATion+ springs from the passion of young researchers of Swansea University in delivering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) outreach activities.
Swansea University and the National Research Network of Wales have always been very supporting of science communication activities, and gave us the first push towards the exciting world of public engagement. As part of our PhDs, we were asked to talk about our research topics to a non-specialized audience: a very challenging task, but which gave such personal satisfaction, that we could not go without it anymore!
And so, in the little spare time we have from our research work, we decided to invest our energy in the CATion+ project. We love doing what we do. We want to inspire children of all ages and backgrounds – just as curiosity has inspired us in undertaking this path – to challenge misconceptions about science and finally to strengthen the link between researchers and general public.
We at CATion+ we strongly believe in an international science without borders. Knowledge should be accessed by everyone, without language barriers. For this reason, our foundation lies in carrying out tailored activities in various European countries, using the local language.
