Our aims:

Opening a dialogue between you and scientists

You’re encouraged to ask as many questions as you want giving scientists the opportunity to explain their research in an understandable manner. Everyone gains from this: you have a clear understanding of the project you’ve backed and its place in the bigger science arena. Thanks to you, scientists can raise awareness of their research.

Providing a means of funding innovative research

2010 Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology, was awarded to Robert G. Edwards for his pioneering work on in vitro fertilization. He was privately funded as the techniques he was developing were seen as being too unconventional for medical establishment of the time. FutSci promotes such ‘Blue Sky’ thinking, research that adds to our knowledge but may not have an immediate applications.

Promoting transparency in research funding

You choose to back a project at FutSci for many different reasons: a personal one, a family member affected by a disease, you feel passionately about the environment or you’re just curious. When you do back a project, you’ll know who is doing the work and you have the opportunity to ask them about their research.

Supporting researchers at all levels, particularly early career scientists

Researchers are continuously facing a funding battle. By supporting scientists you support people whose lives and careers are dedicated to the advancement of science. Their perseverance within their chosen fields has the potential for making extraordinary contributions to our lives.

Raising awareness of Life Science Research

Science funding usually falls into themes. Potentially beneficial research falling outside these categories is often underfunded or even worse forgotten.  FutSci makes all types of research possible, from basic to clinical, applied technologies to bioethics.

Complementing traditional funding avenues

The FutSci science crowdfunding platform is complementary to traditional avenues of funding and NOT an alternative. At FutSci we foresee major funding bodies embracing our vision: crowdfunding of smaller projects, which yield data required to increase the success rate of securing larger grants via the main funding bodies and charities.
