Every year, we hire and compensate local high school students who are passionate about creating tangible change in their local community.
Data-Informed Practice
Through a month-long summer institute, we educate our Fellows on the nuances and intricacies of natural and man-made capital through a practical and professional study of literature which we refer to as “literary science”. This study uses novels as “case studies” to teach students how to gather and evaluate qualitative and quantitative research from community members. By utilizing data informed by humanities studies, we aim to accurately depict the complexity of our community.
Make it and Get Feedback!
Fellows utilize their $10,000 budget to create social impact ventures, primarily focusing on transforming community spaces such as coffee shops, dance studios, churches, and event venues into “local laboratories.” These “labs” amplify grassroots innovation, share valuable resources, and foster strong bonds among local residents. On the program’s final day, fellows present their proposals for a local lab to a diverse group of stakeholders to receive valuable feedback. Throughout the academic year, fellows continue to refine and ultimately implement their ventures.
